Park Facility Operator
Qualification Requirements

Essential Functions
  • Maintains athletic fields.
  • Conducts park inspections as needed.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on both natural and synthetic athletic fields and playgrounds.
  • Conducts athletic field inspections and processes maintenance request work orders.
  • Conducts fertilization and pesticide applications.
  • Performs irrigation repair as directed.
  • Updates maps of park and greenway equipment (includes plant-a-tree locations).
  • Responds to citizen requests, questions and complaints.
  • Maintains splash pad including preventative maintenance and repair.
  • Maintains park equipment inventory, park storage organization and park first aid supplies.
  • Assists staff with research and planning.
  • Updates evening communications.
  • Completes routine forms and reports.
  • Assists with budgeting preparation and financial reporting.
  • Assists with special events and programs as assigned.
  • Serves as park attendant, as needed.
  • Performs other duties and coordinates other projects as assigned.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Moderate knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, tools and materials used in park maintenance and public recreation; some  knowledge of the applicable legislation, policies and procedures dealing with athletic and parks coordination; some knowledge of athletic rules and leagues; some knowledge of human behavior of individuals in groups participating in recreational activities; some knowledge of hazards and necessary safety precautions involved in construction work; some knowledge of the equipment and techniques necessary to successfully conduct athletic and parks programs; some knowledge of the methods involved in organizing, conducting, promoting and supervising athletic and park activities; some knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in recreation work; some skill operating standard office hardware and software; some skill operating standard tools of the trade; ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; ability to direct and supervise the work of athletic and parks staff; ability to evaluate and inspect playground equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with citizens, customers, elected officials, vendors, town staff, and the general public.

Requirements  
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED. Two year associate’s degree preferred.  Moderate experience in athletic field maintenance or related area.
 
Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and frequently climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
 
Special Requirements
Ability to work nights and weekends as scheduled.
CPR/First Aid/AED certification within one year.
CPSI Certification within one year.
Valid driver's license in the State of Tennessee.
