FULL-TIME PARKS & RECREATION PROGRAM SPECIALIST
Job Description
DEFINITION
This employee develops and facilitates diverse programming and assists with day to day operations of the Parks & Recreation department. This position is under the immediate supervision of the Parks & Recreation Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
The Program Specialist is a professional capable of managing research, development, delivery, and documentation of a wide range of programs following the Mission Statement of the Parks & Recreation department. This employee interacts frequently with other City departments in program planning and communication.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Researching trends and staying up to date on recreation services and programming
- Creating program ideas to meet the department’s mission of promoting health, well-being, community and environment
- Delivering programs as a recreational leader and coordinator as assigned
- Promoting recreational interest and participant enthusiasm within the community
- Designing program promotional items such as flyers, announcements, social media news
- Conversing with the public with respect and knowledge whether in person, using a multi-line phone system, in written format, and any technical means of communication
- Recording program participation, survey data, service and delivery statistics
- Assisting with supervision of volunteers for programs as needed
- Providing administrative support for an efficient office environment
- Enforcing rules and regulations for the safety and welfare of participants
- Reporting equipment, maintenance, or other concerns to the Parks & Recreation Director
- Acknowledging that standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, running, climbing stairs, maneuvering equipment, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 lbs. is required as part of parks and recreation services

Requirements |
QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Wellness, Business, Education, or a related career interest is required. Experience working with the public and assisting with programs, education, or public speaking is desired. Candidate must be self-motivated and committed to building a healthier community through Parks & Recreation.
CPRP and CPR/AED Certification a plus
Must have and maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license (Capable of driving a 16’0” box truck utilized in programs and events)
