Effective close of business June 30, 2008 administration of the National Certification Program in Tennessee moved to NRPA headquarters.

Please remember only currently certified individuals information transitioned.  If your certification was not current, you will have to apply or re-apply through NRPA to be certified.  Your education files will continue to be maintained by TRPA.  You can receive updates about your current CEUs earned (through TRPA), by calling 615-790-0041 or login in at www.trpa.net and check your CEU Summary on your profile.  TRPA members attending NRPA classes and wishing to have a backup for their transcript may continue to fax those to TRPA and we will put them in your hard copy education file.  Please note: We will not put them in the computer file.

For information on certification please go to www.nrpa.org/cprp .

Below is the contents of the letter we mailed by first class mail to every certified individual in Tennessee on April 15, 2008

Dear

Last year the National Recreation and Park Association decided to move the administration of their certification program to the NRPA National Headquarters and eliminated the Model National Certification Plan and recognition of all previously recognized state plans.  Each state is transitioning through this process.  Tennessee will transition the certification program (including administration of certification applications, renewal applications, CEU petition forms, and Professional Service Experience requests) to the National Headquarters effective close of business June 30, 2008.  After that time you will deal directly with NRPA regarding your certification.

NRPA Headquarters

22377 Belmont Ridge Road

Ashburn, VA20148

703-858-0784

Certification Manager: Sharon Mannion

TRPA will send NRPA the following

·         A photo copy of your original application – if this included social security numbers and/or credit card numbers they will be blacked out.  Your originals will be kept by TRPA for insurance and legal purposes.

·         An electronic file with the following information

o        First and Last Name

o        Mailing Address (including city, state & zip code)

o        E-mail address

o        Phone & Fax numbers

o        Certification category

o        Certification expiration date

o        Certification origination date

o        Certification number

o        Last date to pass the exam (if a PPRP)

·         A copy of this letter

·         A current CEU transcript

Certification renewal dates have been extended to meet the NRPA schedule.  Your next certification renewal will be through NRPA.  Your next certification renewal date is: «CERTREN».

Please note NRPA made the following additional changes (effective January 1, 2008) that may affect your certification:

·         There is no more lapsed certification status. If you do not have enough CEUs or pay your fees your certification is gone. You may apply for re-entry into the certification program. If this is done within two years, you will pay your lapse fees and take and pass the current certification exam. If you have been out more than two years, you will need to complete a new certification application.

·         There will no longer be a PPRP or APRP status. If you are a current APRP, you can keep the status as long as you never miss a renewal; or chose to sit for the exam and when passing the exam become a CPRP.  If you are a current PPRP, you may keep the status until passing the exam or your exam opportunity time has expired.

·         Application requirements will change to the following

o        Hold a bachelor’s degree from an NRPA accredited program, verified by official transcript and pass the CPRP examination; OR

o        Hold a bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited education institution (without NRPA Accredited Program), verified by official transcript, with a major in recreation, park resources, or leisure services have no less than one-year of full-time experience in a recreation, park resources or leisure services position that encompasses each domain of the job analysis following the degree, and successfully pass the CPRP examination; OR

o        Hold a bachelor’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited education institution (without NRPA Accredited Program), verified by official transcript, with a major other than recreation, park resources, or leisure services have no less than three-year of full-time experience in a recreation, park resources or leisure services position that encompasses each domain of the job analysis following the degree, and successfully pass the CPRP examination; OR

o        Hold a high school diploma, equivalency certificate, or associate’s degrees from a regionally accredited education institution (without NRPA Accredited Program), verified by official transcript/documentation, have no less than five years of full-time experience in a recreation, park resources or leisure services position that encompasses each domain of the job analysis following the degree, and successfully pass the CPRP examination; OR

o        Students who have not yet graduated from an NRPA accredited program with a major in recreation, park resources and leisure services but are in their final semester may be eligible to qualify for exam status. They may complete the CPRP exam prior to completion of the internship requirement and academic Degree attainment.  Certification may be granted upon passing the CPRP exam and after submission of official transcript/documentation verifying graduation. All students must apply through the NRPA office

·         Candidates for certification renewal may choose to take and pass (before the certification expiration date) the certification exam in lieu of obtaining CEUs.

Your education files will continue to be housed in Tennessee as required by our agreement as an authorized provider under the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).  TRPA will continue to offer CEU educational opportunities in accordance with IACET standards and post your updated records to your member profile on our website www.trpa.net  Please note you will need this information when you renew your certification with NRPA.  TRPA has been assured by NRPA staff that “The criteria from the NCB has ALWAYS been to accept any documented CEUs.”  So CEUs you earn from TRPA events will be accepted by NRPA.

You can print off your member profile including your current CEUs

·         Going to www.trpa.net and logging in.

·         Choose the My Membership Profile button under the membership button.  This will open your profile.

·         Click on click here for printable member profile link.  This will give you a version of your information without your password.

You can also get a copy of your transcript at any time by contacting the TRPA office.  This will continue to be a free service for current TRPA members.  To find education opportunities offered by TRPA, please go to www.trpa.net or check your bi-weekly TRPA Update e-newsletter.

Attached is a copy of your current transcript.

As an additional member service TRPA will continue to file any other CEU paperwork that you fax to us.  These records will not be kept in the computer file, but will be in your hard file and can be faxed to you when needed.  If we can assist you in any other matters, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
